Obituary

Thomas Alan Bush, age 61, passed away on Saturday June 2, 2018 at University of Maryland Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Kathleen (Wierzba) Bush; together they shared 39 years of marriage.

Thomas was born on July 13, 1956 and was the son of Harry E. and the late Katherine (Siemon) Bush. He graduated with a master’s degree from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California. He also graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and served in the United States Army for 14 years, earning his Meritorious Service Medal, 2 Army Commendation Medal’s, 2 National Defense Service Medal’s, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, and Parachutist Badge. He also loved to volunteer his time; spending 11 years teaching CCD at Sacred Heart, 12 years helping with Boy Scout Troop 0030, and helped with the Athletic Booster Club from 2000-2008.

Tom was an Army man through and through. He graduated from West Point in 1978 and served as a Commissioned Officer in the Signal Corps until 1992. He then began a career working in pollution prevention, hazardous material elimination and environmental sustainability as a U.S. Army civilian, followed by consulting positions with the Army to continue his work. He joined JENSEN HUGHES in 1998, providing program management and technical expertise to clients in the reduction of ozone-depleting and global warming chemicals and hazardous materials. For the last 20 years, he has provided exceptional service to the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command environmental sustainability program and has served on three separate NATO working groups related to environmental aspects of military basecamps across the world.

In addition to his wife Kathleen, Thomas is survived by his sons Alexander and girlfriend Brooke of Lancaster and Eric and wife Cynthia of Conway, SC; his step-grandson Justin Watson; and his father Harry E. Bush. He is also survived by his brother Gregory Bush and wife Lynette; his nephews Gregory Bush Jr. and wife Charlene and Timothy Bush; and three great-nephews, and one great-niece.

A Funeral Mass in celebration of Thomas' life will be held on Friday June 8 at 11:00AM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Center, 1031 Sprenkle Rd. Spring Grove PA 17362. Interment will follow the Mass at Spring Grove Cemetery. Viewings will be held on Thursday from 4:00-8:00PM at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 175 N Main St Spring Grove PA 17362, and on Friday from 10:00-11:00AM at the Parish Center.

In lieu of flowers, contribution in Thomas’ memory can be made to the Boy Scout’s Troop 0030, St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 S Main St Spring Grove PA 17362, or the West Point Association of Graduates, 698 Mills Rd, West Point, NY 10996.
