Obituary for John Lynaugh

Captain John Peter Lynaugh, U.S. Army (Ret.)Born in Springfield, Illinois passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, in his home in Orlando, Florida. It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of John Peter Lynaugh, devoted husband, beloved father, cherished grandfather, and proud Army veteran. John passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, in his home in Orlando, Florida, the city he called home for many years. Born in Springfield, Illinois, John was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. He served his country with honor and distinction as a Captain in the United States Army, with assignments across several states and abroad in Germany. His military service was a lifelong source of pride and purpose.

Following his service in Germany, John settled in Orlando, Florida, where he built a successful career as a realtor. Known for his discipline, integrity, and sharp sense of humor, he brought the same dedication to his civilian life that he had shown in uniform. Above all, John was a man devoted to his wife and family. He and his wife, Maria Lynaugh (Judy), were inseparable—true companions who did everything together and lived as one. Their bond was unshakable. John lovingly called his wife Mi Princesa, and she called him Mi Papito Lindo. Together, they were known as J & J—travel companions who made the most of every moment, including fulfilling one of John’s dreams by visiting Yellowstone National Park. John had a deep passion for life’s simple pleasures: family time, road trips, traveling, orchids, visiting America’s National Parks, all things military, and a strong cup of Cuban coffee—especially from Versailles in Miami. He had a deep love for Puerto Rico and the island’s vibrant culture, which brought him much joy. He also enjoyed playing video games.

John is lovingly survived by his wife, Maria (Judy); his children Luis Carrero (wife Barbara), Gerardo Carrero ( wife Bettina), Annie Floyd (husband Brad), and Johnny Lynaugh (wife Audrey). John’s legacy continues through his adored grandchildren: Abbie Rose, Sawyer, Jaelyn, Karter Presley, Melody, Jax, Graeme Hudson, Camila, and Gianni. He is also survived by a long list of family members, whom he adored, as well as many dear friends. His legacy of honor, loyalty, and love will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.A private celebration of life will be held with family and close friends to honor his life and service at a later time. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (https://t2t.org/).
